Certificate IV in Dance and Diploma of Dance
I have always been passionate about dance (and always will be) but as I got older, I started to become more invested in it - more invested in the idea that I might make it a career. This is just one of the reasons which inspired me to attain a Certificate IV in Dance and Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) at Brent Street in Sydney, Australia. In my time at Brent Street I learnt much of what I practice professionally now - presence, performance, movement quality, strength, versatility. Some of the units included in my qualifications have a direct application to my work as a dancer, performer, choreographer and most importantly, as a teacher. Some of these units include:
BSBCRT501 Originate and develop concepts
CUAPRF503 Prepare for performance in a competitive environment
CUAPRF402 Develop conceptual and expressive skills as a performer
CUACHR501 Create and perform complex dance pieces
CUAPPR404 Develop self as artist
CUACHR403 Develop choreography skills
Diploma of Counselling
I consistently seek to improve upon my skills and learn ones I hadn’t previously considered. For this reason, among many others, I completely switched up my learning and career goals decided to start studying a Diploma of Counselling in 2024.
Some of the units my current course focuses on include:
CHCCC014 Provide brief interventions
CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
CHCCCS003 Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide
CHCCCS019 Recognise and respond to crisis situations
CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
CHCCCS017 Provide grief and loss support
CHCCSM005 Develop, facilitate and review all aspects of case management
CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice
CHCCSL007 Support counselling clients in decision-making process
CHCCSL004 Research and apply personality and development theories
CHCCSL005 Apply learning theories in counselling
CHCDFV001 Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence
The study of human behaviour and helping others in a way that I needed when I was younger are two things I have always been passionate about. This course has taught be so many invaluable skills and perspectives, and imparted knowledge which has informed not only my newfound goals but also the way I approach teaching children, professional relationships and even the way I communicate in everyday situations. I am incredibly excited for the new path this has set me on.
Beyond my qualifications, I have worked in the consent education sector with Consent Labs. I learned so much there while engaging in training sessions and sharing conversations with likeminded individuals who were able to offer new perspectives. In schools, I facilitated modules such as:
Consent Foundations
Recognising Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment
Responding to Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment
Consent with Alcohol and Other Drugs
